The Black Experience is a safe space for black-identifying students of all gender identities to respectfully listen to each other, share thoughts, feelings, provide validation, and offer encouragement to fellow black students at The University of Alabama in Huntsville. We will focus on topics such as relationships, spirituality, mental health, sexuality, societal issues, etc. which will further encourage the fostering of unique conversations relating to vulnerability, identity formation, relationships, and values. The Black Experience will create an environment of unity and cooperation among its members.

The primary goal of a support group is to help members cope with issues or problems in their lives. This is NOT a clinical therapy group. Member commitment to a support group is minimal, meaning, members can ‘drop in’ for a session whenever they choose.

  • Black-identifying students are encouraged to attend the group.
  • Although attendance may be minimal, it is encouraged that members try to attend support groups regularly, for the benefit of themselves and the group.
  • This group will provide a safe and respectful environment for the black-identifying male, female, and non-binary students of UAH to engage in meaningful conversations.

The Black Experience will be meeting virtually via ZOOM while we are still observing COVID-19 restrictions. If you would like to join in the conversation, simply use the link provided in the UAH Counseling Center Event Calendar under the group description. If you have any questions about The Black Experience or any group workshop at the Counseling Center, please feel free to reach out via email at uahcc@uah.edu.
