Jasmine Halligan’s mixed-media portraits explore the play between our internal and “public” selves. Her work references Instagram culture, the need to project an idealized version of the self that is sometimes at odds with emotional life. But rather than merely critiquing it with a broad brush, she balances it with imagery that suggests introspection. Her paintings are also gestures of beauty, rich color, and a dynamic play between graphic and painterly elements.
