"Existence and Stability Results for Some Second-Order Evolution Equations"

Abstract- Second-order evolution equations of Gurtin-Pipkin type have been widely utilized to study various practical problems including the heat conduction in materials with memory, the sound propagation in viscoelastic media, and homogenization problems in perforated media (Darcy's Law).

In this talk, we study and obtain under some reasonable assumptions, the existence and the stability of mild solutions to some classes of second-order evolution equations of Gurtin-Pipkin type in a Hilbert space. To illustrate our results, two examples will be studied at the end of the talk --- one of which is the well-known Kirchoff plate equation.

Refreshments will be served at 2:30 p.m. in the Math Office (SST 258A).
