Signature International Meetings CSPAR organized two of its signature international meetings in the few years, the 9th Annual International Astrophysics Conference in Maui (March, 2010), and the 4th ASTRONUM Conference in Chamonix, France (July 2009). Each meeting is attended by about 60 – 75 scientists from every part of the globe. The new annual meetings together with the biannual Huntsville Workshop add immeasurably to CSPAR’s research prominence and profile. Adding to our visibility is the number of special sessions and symposia being organized within large established meetings such as the AGU Fall and spring meetings, COSPAR, Solar Wind 12, etc. During the fall and Spring AGU meetings, for example, CSPAR scientists were responsible for organizing 3 to 4 sessions. This trend will be continued, and at least two sessions have been proposed for the Fall AGU. This will be encouraged and continued. Past CSPAR Meetings TGF 2016 Huntsville Workshop 2014 March 23 - 27, 2014 at the Holiday Inn in Orlando GAMMA RAY BURST SYMPOSIUM April 14-18 2013 Nashville, Tennessee -- Gamma ray bursts are the most luminous explosions in the universe, and are thought to be the birth signatures of black holes. This is an exciting time in the GRB field with new data coming from the Fermi and MAXI missions, dedicated GRB chasing by Swift, and continued observations by AGILE, INTEGRAL, Konus and Suzaku. There is also growing capability for follow-up observations by telescopes of all size classes. Searches are recently underway for TeV emission, neutrinos, and gravitational waves. There is a huge theoretical effort to understand the GRB phenomenon and keep up with the constant new puzzles coming from the data. ASTRONUM 2012 June 25-29 -- The Center of Space Plasma and Aeronomic Research (CSPAR) at The University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) and the Maison de la Simulation at CEA/CNRS, Paris, France, will organize ASTRONUM-2012. Space Weather Summer School 2012 June 25-August 5 -- UAH is co-hosting a Joint Space Weather Summer School with German Aerospace Center (DLR). TGF Workshop 2011 The Huntsville Workshop (Nashville, October 2010)5th ASTRONUM Conference (San Diego, June 2010)9th Annual International Astrophysics Conference (Maui, March 2010)4th ASTRONUM Conference (Chamonix, France, July 2009) CSPAR Summer School in Space Weather Our first UAH/CSPAR Summer School in Space Weather took place during June 2010 at the Cramer Center. Colloquium Series We initiated a vibrant new colloquium series that is held weekly. We tap local and visiting scientists for talks and this will continue. A measure of our success is that MSFC discontinued their seminar series and asked instead to join ours. We now organize and host the joint CSPAR/MSFC colloquium series.
