DO NOT contact us through email or this website in crisis situations.

Crises generally involve a situation in which someone’s safety is at risk (oftentimes a potentially life-or-death situation). In any circumstance in which you believe your safety or the safety of someone else is in danger, treat it as a crisis and seek help IMMEDIATELY!

  • Suicidal or homicidal gestures or attempts are crisis situations. Persistent thoughts about death or specific ideas on ways to hurt self or others should be treated as crisis situations.
  • If someone you know is suddenly acting very differently in a way that is concerning for you, this may be an emergency. To be safe, seek help immediately.
  • If you have been physically attacked (mugging, sexual assault, etc.), seek help immediately.
  • Many other concerns can be experienced as a crisis. Please feel free to consult us if you are not sure how to handle a situation if it should arise.

Crisis appointments (same day) are reserved for students who are experiencing suicidal ideation, have been the victim of a recent crime or have experienced a recent life-altering event.

Students can schedule a crisis appointment by calling 256.824.6203 or coming to the Counseling Center. We see students by scheduled appointments only and are currently unable to provide walk-in services.
