The University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) is very pleased to announce the 7th annual Research Horizons Day (RHD) and Research Week to be held on the UAH campus on March 15-19, 2021. The Office of Academic Affairs, on behalf of the Colleges of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, Business, Education, Engineering, Honors, Nursing, Professional and Continuing Studies and Science, encourages eligible UAH students to participate. The purpose of the event is to highlight and celebrate the research and creative work of our students.

Current UAH graduate and undergraduate students from all disciplines and majors who have completed research or creative projects under the mentorship of faculty or research staff between Spring Semester 2020 through the deadline (January 29, 2021) are eligible and encouraged to apply. Selected posters/creative projects will be judged and prizes will be awarded by each respective college. The poster session format will be virtual to support safe practices during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The research or creative project can have been done outside of UAH, but the abstract and poster must be endorsed by a UAH faculty member or research staff. There is no cost to the student to apply or participate. A student, as lead/main author, is limited to one submission.

Abstracts must be submitted online via a Google Form. In addition to new projects, research presented at other events in 2020 are also eligible. Examples include the Von Braun Symposium (VBS), Research or Creative Experience for Undergraduates (RCEU), Honor Capstone Research (HCR), American Geophysical Union (AGU), American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) or other professional/academic symposia, etc. Posters from last year's Research Horizons Day are excluded. The intent behind using already existing posters/presentations is to highlight as much research as possible.

Abstracts can be submitted online at: https://forms.gle/ECcWJbULjDEo9VXs5

All abstract submissions must be received by Friday, January 29, 2021, 12PM (noon) CST.

Submissions will be vetted by each college before final selection of participants is decided shortly after the deadline. If the abstract is accepted, the student will receive a PowerPoint template to assist in creating a poster which can be narrated with audio. Likewise, a student can submit a narrated PPT presentation or video of them presenting. Examples of such presentations can be found on the UAH Undergraduate Research YouTube channel.

If accepted to participate, the completed presentation will be due by Friday, March 5, 2021 by 12PM (noon) CST. Accepted students are expected to submit a presentation for the online platform. Details on submissions will be provided to successful candidates.

Abstracts. The abstract should include the title of the creative project or research and a brief summary of the focus of the project. The abstract should be limited to a maximum of 250 words.

The student is required to work with a mentor (faculty, research staff, etc.). The work should be substantially the work of the student, and be sufficiently complete to warrant public presentation. Students must notify their mentor that they are intending to participate. The mentor should give guidance and advice, and is responsible for approving the accuracy and content of the abstract and the resulting poster/presentation, if accepted. The mentor’s name must appear with the author’s name or in the acknowledgments section of the presentation, whichever is appropriate.

If accepted to participate, the student agrees to allow the posting of their presentation online for public view. Usage may extend to the UAH website, related social media and published in print materials. Captions may include first and last names, mentor’s name, majors, minors, academic year, and titles and descriptions of the research project.
