Members of the UAH Faculty, Researchers, and Staff,

Welcome back!  It is exciting to start the new academic year with the UAH Fall Convocation on Tuesday, August 20, 2019. This is a special and joyous occasion because it marks the beginning of a new academic year and gives us an opportunity to welcome and greet our new students as they start their academic journeys with us.  I hope that you will attend the Convocation and be a part of this important event in the lives of our students.

The Convocation will start at 7:00 PM at the Greenway Circle.  The faculty, researchers, and staff are invited to gather in the Student Services Building Lobby at 6:00 p.m. for a reception and to meet our new President, Dr. Darren Dawson. At 6:45 p.m. faculty and researchers will line up in the lobby.  At about 6:50 p.m. the faculty and researchers will process to the greenway stage area together after the students have arrived and sit together in a designated area.   Staff do not need to process and may sit or stand anywhere not designated for faculty or new students. There will be no academic regalia for the Convocation Ceremony.  We encourage all to wear our school colors and to dress comfortably.

New students will move in procession, in UAH Tee Shirts, from Central Campus Residence Hall and Charger Union to the Greenway Circle.  At the end of the Convocation Ceremony, faculty and researchers will proceed over in the direction of the picnic area, north of the circle, following the Academic Affairs Staff, and line up in double file to greet students individually, hand them a tassel and welcome them. The President’s Picnic will follow the Convocation Ceremony.  A fireworks display will follow the picnic.

Please join the students at the picnic after greeting them.  The picnic will be located under a tent near the Intermodal facility and tables will be situated near Charger Union.

I look forward to seeing you at the Convocation and at the other special activities that mark the beginning of our new academic year.  I am excited about the start of our new academic year and working with our students and you to make this a successful and productive year for all of us.  Together, we will continue to build on the excellence that is the hallmark of The University of Alabama in Huntsville.

Christine Curtis
Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs
