UAH Alumni Association The University of Alabama in Huntsville

Nominations for The University of Alabama (UAH) Alumni Association Alumni of Achievement awards and for the UAH Alumni Association Board of Directors are now open.

An earlier start date for Alumni of Achievement nominations will provide more opportunity for the public, UAH faculty and UAH staff to consider nominating alumni.

This year, the UAH Alumni Association will also be recognizing for the first time one Outstanding Young Alumni of Achievement who is 40 years of age or younger. Applications for both awards will close Feb. 28.

A newly simplified Alumni of Achievement application contains just three questions that ask for the nominee's contributions to his or her career field, UAH and the community. No resumes will be accepted. A letter of recommendation completed by a current or past faculty or staff member or a current or past UAH Alumni Association Board of Directors member is required.

"We hope these changes in the application process will allow for a more streamlined process and more opportunity to recognize alumni from each college," says Mallie Hale, senior director of Alumni Relations and executive director of the UAH Alumni Association.

Also new this year, Alumni of Achievement honorees will be honored in October in coordination with Homecoming, rather than during the Annual Alumni Association Meeting in August.

"To recognize our honorees in a more celebratory fashion, these two events are being split in 2018," Hale explains. "By hosting the Alumni of Achievement Awards during October, we hope to give three of our top students from each college honoring an alumnus or alumna a chance to meet and be inspired by our honorees. The October event will also give alumni another reason to come back for Homecoming."

Applications for UAH Alumni Association Board of Directors are also open through Feb 28.

The Board of Directors is the governing body of the UAH Alumni Association, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Members work diligently to serve and represent the alumni of UAH while providing valuable programming and resources for alumni.

The UAH Alumni Association is dedicated to connecting the university and its alumni in a mutually beneficial relationship through fostering a spirit of pride and loyalty, celebrating tradition and innovation, and encouraging meaningful engagement in support of UAH’s mission.

"Now is the time to get connected!" says Natalie Wrinkle, 2017-2018 UAH Alumni Association president." Nominating a fellow UAH graduate for an Alumni of Achievement Award or applying to serve with other proud alums on the Board of Directors are among several opportunities to stay connected with our alma mater."

"If you are a leader and passionate about UAH, we invite you to apply for the Board of Directors," says Hale.
