Huntsville, Ala. (March 29, 2012) — Where the Great Ones Run a play written by Hollywood executive producer, comedian and actor Mark Roberts will be performed by The University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) Theatre. David Harwell, assistant professor of Communication Arts at UAH, will direct the play.

On March 29 — 31 and April 4 — 7, the presentation will begin at 7:30 p.m. And, on Sunday, April 1, the presentation starts at 2:30 p.m.  The play will be performed in the Wilson Hall Theater located on the university’s campus. Where the Great Ones Run is the story of Sonny Burl, a country legend who returns to his hometown to play one last concert at the county fair. While there, Sonny tries to reconnect with the wife he never divorced, the brother he abandoned, and the daughter he never knew.

David Harwell joined the UAH Communication Arts faculty in 2005. Under his direction, the university’s Theatre Cognate is an ambitious program producing six main stage shows per year. In 2001, Harwell was the recipient of a Daytime Emmy Award for best-set design for Between the Lions, a PBS children’s show filmed in New York. He also served as a designer for CNBC and MSNBC. Additionally, he was a project manager for The National Geographic Channel.

Comedy writer Mark Roberts is best known as the creator and executive producer of the hit CBS comedy sitcom Mike & Molly. Roberts also worked on the top-rated comedy, “Two and a Half Men,” and eventually became the executive producer. In the past, Roberts has visited the university on two occasions for premieres of his productions, Couples Counseling Killed Katie and Rantoul and Die.
