Aug 11, 2021 | Jenny Russell communication arts The Communication Arts Department at The University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH), a part of The University of Alabama System, is pleased to announce their student and faculty presentations and awards at the 10th annual Alabama Communication Association (ACA). Alabama Communication Association held its 10th annual conference at the University of Montevallo on July 31, 2021. UAH Communication Arts had five undergrad students present, two graduate students present, and one faculty present. Presenters included: Undergraduate: Mallory McDonald Kate Kornegay Meagan Myrick Matthew Poarch Julia Cleland Graduate: Sarah Morgan Ro Sexton Faculty: Dr. John Saunders 2021 Alabama Communication Association Conference Program Julia Cleland (‘21 Communication Arts) presented two papers, and her paper titled "Streamlined Please! More Streamlined!" Student and Faculty Perceptions of a University's Crisis Communication in Response to the COVID-19 Pandemic won the Bradley-Bryant Top Undergraduate Student Paper award. During the conference, the business membership approved the John H. Saunders Service Award. Dr. John Saunders, UAH Communication Arts Lecturer, is the co-founder of the ACA and was the first president and executive director. Saunders’s work strives to promote the state association at the national level. The award will celebrate individuals, faculty, students, or practitioners, who have actively worked to create opportunities for others to use their voices. Saunders says, “Helping people find their voice and learn how to use it has been a core part of my teaching and service for over 20 years.
