Your Rights As a Donor

Helping you meet your personal philanthropic goals is the highest priority of the UAH Foundation. Your gifts to the University have a significant impact on student success at UAH. We want to work with you to maximize that impact.

Your privacy is also a priority of the UAH Alumni Association. The Alumni Association, which manages the alumni databases for UAH, the UAH Foundation, and UAH Development Office that manages the donor and biographical databases, do not release any information about alumni and friends without their permission. Specifically:

      * The UAH Foundation, and UAH do not give, sell, rent or otherwise provide any names or addresses to persons or organizations outside the official conduct of University, Foundation, or Association business. Requests from alumni and donors to be removed from mailing lists, to remain anonymous, to keep their address information confidential, or other similar requirements are honored.

The UAH Foundation subscribes to the Donor Bill of Rights established by the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education, below, as well as to the Model Standards of Practice for the Charitable Gift Planner and the Association of Professional Researchers for Advancement Standards of Ethics.

Donor Bill of Rights:

The staff of the UAH Foundation adheres to the Donor Bill of Rights, developed by the American Association of Fund-Raising Counsel (AAFRC), Association for Healthcare Philanthropy (AHP), Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE), and the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP).

Philanthropy is based on voluntary action for the common good. In the United States as no where else in the world it is a tradition of giving and sharing that is primary to the quality of life. To assure that your philanthropy for the benefit of UAH students merits the respect and trust of the public, and that donors and prospective donors can have full confidence in the not-for-profit organizations and causes of UAH that they are asked to support, we declare that all donors have these rights:
  1. To be informed of the University's and the Foundation's mission, of the way the organizations intend to use donated resources, and of its capacity to use donations efficiently and effectively for their intended purposes.
  2. To be informed of the identity of those serving on the University's and the Foundation's governing boards, and to expect the boards to exercise prudent judgment in its stewardship responsibilities.
  3. To have access to the UAH Foundation's most recent financial statements.
  4. To be assured their gifts will be used for the purposes for which they were given.
  5. To receive appropriate acknowledgment and recognition.
  6. To be assured that donation information is handled with respect and with confidentiality to the extent provided by law.
  7. To expect that all relationships with individuals representing UAH or the UAH Foundation will be professional in nature.
  8. To be informed whether those seeking donations are volunteers, employees of UAH or the UAH Foundation or hired solicitors.
  9. To have the opportunity for their names to be deleted from mailing lists.
  10. To be assured that their names will not be shared without their approval.
  11. To feel free to ask questions when making a donation and to receive prompt, truthful and forthright answers.
