Dock Party, Summer 1999

The Society hosted its Summer Dock Party, on Saturday, July 10th. The festivities took place at Castle Grand Souci (formerly known as Castle Gerberding) in Rogersville, Alabama. The weather was hot, humid, and clouds constantly threatened thunderstorms; however, that didn't stop the intrepid party-goers as they frolicked in the water and shuttled around the river in Dr. Gerberding's boat. Exquisite barbecue fare was available by the humble cook (also known as this webmaster). But official duties were also taken care of amidst the festivities. There was the election of next year's officers, with Brian Kleeman being elected President, Jeremy Saint as Vice-President, Amanda Dennis as Secretary, and to replace the stodgy title of Event Coordinator (at least Dr. Gerberding thinks so), Caleb Clanton was elected as Animal Convivialis, aka The Party Animal. The group also discussed next year's texts, and upcoming events at UAH. The group also bid a fond farewell to one of its own, as Jim Bilbro left to start his graduate studies in Linguistics at the University of Georgia. A hearty thanks goes out to all those who joined us for an afternoon by the river.
