About the Society

Welcome to the Society for Ancient Languages.

The Society for Ancient Languages is an academic organization of the University of Alabama in Huntsville devoted to the study of the languages and ideas of antiquity. We meet weekly each semester to read classical, medieval, and later Latin texts.

In addition to our regular meetings, we sponsor several functions during the year, including public readings, parties, and a spring banquet. For more information, check out our Events page.

All students, faculty, and interested members of the community are welcome to join.

We meet every Tuesday during regular semesters from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m., in Roberts Hall, Room 423. For a list of our meeting dates, please see our schedule.

For more information please contact Dr. Richard Gerberding at (256) 890-6310.
