The Minority Graduate Student Association was founded on the campus of the University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) in 1993. It was created by three graduate students in the LSAMP Drop-In Center in Wilson Hall, room 111. The three visionaries recognized a need for a strong consortium of minority graduate students who could positively affect the retention and recruitment efforts of UAH to attract minority faculty and students.
They believed that by creating a Minority Graduate Student Association, they could provide a strong influence on the diversity of the UAH faculty and students. Moreover, the students concluded that they could create a necessary support base for minorities at UAH by their efforts. Over the past decade, the Minority Graduate Student Association has grown and evolved from a small group of three visionaries into a powerful force of many minority students who advocate equality, diversity, and excellence for all students at UAH. |
