Universite Laval

Universite Laval is located in Ste-Foy, Quebec in Canada.  They have appeared at the U.S. nationals eleven times (1996, 1997, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2009, 2010, 2011, and 2012) and have won the Canadian National Concrete Canoe Competition ten times (1996, 1997, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2011, and 2012).

During the early years of the U.S. National Competition, Laval qualified seven times as the Canadian National Champion.  The 2005 NCCC rules prohibited them from participating in 2005 but the team won the Canadian Nationals for the eighth time with a perfect 100/100 score.  In recent years  (2009, 2010, 2011, and 2012), the team proudly represented the New England Conference Conference.

Laval is a major contender at the national level.  They won the best product category twice (2001 and 2004) and recently took first place honors in the design paper category (2012).  They also have a very strong paddling team which swept the races in 2011.  Their alumni started Concrete Canoe Magazine in 2006.  Laval has finished six times in the top five and nine times in the top ten.  Their highest finish to date was second in 2002, 2003, 2004, and 2012.  In 2002, they were the only school to finish top five in all categories.

The team's National Concrete Canoe Competition (NCCC) performance record stands as follows:

  • Best Overall

  • Most Design Points

  • Most Race Points (2011)

  • Best Design Paper (2012)

  • Best Display
