Our competition theme:

This year's entry is called PHOENIX which symbolizes resurrection, as well as something that is beautiful, rare, and unique. Our logo symbolizes the life cycle of Team UAH and depicts how we intended to carry the ashes of our previous incarnations to the winner's circle in Johnstown, PA.

At the Southeast Conference, we placed third behind the University of Florida and the University of Puerto Rico Mayaguez and, therefore, did not qualify for the national competition.  However, we completely reorganized our organizational structure, incorporated a splash guard and seat rail in our canoe to improve performance, simplified our structural analysis, incorporated a reinforced core that saved weight over an un-reinforced canoe, developed a multi-level material design approach, incorporated concrete constituents to increase the homogeneity of our concrete mix, and introduced an efficiency parameter to compare our concrete mixes.

While constructing our canoe, we designed and built a graphite reinforced core which was lighter than our 40 lb/ft3 concrete mix.

We'll be posting additional information regarding our effort soon.

About our school and Team UAH:

The University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) was established more than fifty years ago as a research institute to support the growing aerospace science and missile fields. Since then, we have become the anchor tenant in the second largest research park in the United States. We have a current enrollment of 7,376 with approximately 200 students enrolled in Civil and Environmental Engineering.

A large percentage of Team UAH is drawn from other engineering disciplines, particularly mechanical and aerospace. Our unorthodox, multi-disciplinary approach has helped to us to earn five national titles and eleven other top ten finishes in ASCE's National Concrete Canoe Competition.
