Presentation:

The University of Nevada, Reno represented the Mid-Pacific Conference and made their fifth national appearance.

Nevada-Reno relied on 3 people to make their presentation; 2 men and 1 woman.  The presenters were dressed business casual.  The team used 1 screen and included 1 video segment.

The team began with a team introduction followed by an explanation of their theme.  The fist aspect discussed was project management.  The team elaborated on the challenges faced then went on to analysis.  

They explained how they performed the analysis and the load cases considered.  They gave the critical loads and explained how they took steps to minimize stress.  Then they explained how they used the concrete and reinforcement to achieve the critical loads.  

They explained how they moved from the baseline to the final mix.  Details regarding constituents and steps taken to add them were mentioned.  

The team mentioned the recyclable aggregates used and explained how they selected constituents  to maximize performance.  They specified the mixture proportion of the recyclables.  

The team went on to concrete canoe construction and detailed the steps taken including curing.  They explained how they took steps toward sustainability before bringing their presentation to a strrong conclusion.

  • How would you have characterized your aggregate if data on them was not readily available?

  • How does your reinforcement system work?

  • How do you determine the amount of force needed for pre-tensioning?

  • Can you elaborate on how much materials were added to your mix?

  • Can you elaborate on how you pre-stress and calibrate your springs?

  • Can you explain how much stress you relieve by pre-stressing?

  • What additional safety measures did you take while pre-stressing?

  • Do you account for losses due to curing?

The presentation went smoothly and the team answered the questions quickly and concisely.
