"University of California - Berkeley (Bears)"
(1st place overall; 1st in paper; 1st in presentation; 3rd in product)

Presentation:

Berkeley represented the Mid-Pacific Conference and made their seventeenth national appearance.

UC Berkeley relied on 3 people to make their presentation; 2 men and 1 woman.  The presenters were dressed business casual.  The team used 1 screen and included 3 video segments.

After giving a brief introduction, the team focused on project management.  After describing their critical path, the team focused on structural analysis.  They found that the critical stress occurred during the co-ed race as the paddlers leaned forward.  The team stressed that they had taken dynamic loadings into account during their analysis.

Mix design came next.  The team contrasted the properties of their mix to last year’s.  Then they described how they obtained a vanity of colors to enhance their canoe’s aesthetics.

The team explained how they used a female mold and described their quality assurance process.  After touching base on management, they explained their reinforcement scheme.

The team explained how they were able to achieve a weight reduction of 30 percent in their product and described the process used to stain the boat.  They described how the interior and exterior surfaces were finished.

After reinforcing the strength of their delivery, the team brought their presentation to conclusion.
