The name of Reno's canoe is Latin for silver; Nevada is the Silver State.

According to Corbin McFarlane from Nevada, Reno:  "The Mid-Pacific Conference was the toughest I have seen with Nevada, Cal Berkeley, San Jose State and UC Davis all making a grab at the national competition. Nevada placed 1st in Final Product with a beautifully finished canoe, while San Jose pushed out Berkeley for 2nd place on the strength of their table and cross section, relegating Berkeley to 3rd. Berkeley put on one of the strongest presentations I have seen to take 1st in that category, as Davis took advantage of a relatively weak presentation by Nevada to take 2nd, putting Nevada into 3rd. Nevada took 1st in the Design Paper, with Berkeley in 2nd and Davis in 3rd. Berkeley edged Nevada in all three sprint races (at times by very narrow margins), while Nevada outperformed Berkeley in both slaloms (again by narrow margins). San Jose took 3rd in four races. Throughout the awards banquet, there was no certainty on which team or teams would earn a spot to the national competition."
