"Pre-National Photos
of Regional
Qualifiers"
Links to these and other
schools are available through our concrete
canoe websites page. Statistics for the national competitors are
included in "For the Record."
Have you seen "The Front Line"
and our selected regional
coverage?

Team UAH with "Full Spectrum" - Southeast.

Berkeley Bears with "Caliente"
- Mid-Pacific.

California Polytechnic State University,
San Luis Obispo with "Katana" - Pacific Southwest.

Clarkson University with "Archimedes"
- Upstate New York.

Clemson's 3CT fields "Take It For
Granite" -
Carolinas.

Drexel University
with "Concrete Charlie"- Mid-Atlantic.
Drexel's big
innovation this year was the use of a high-tech, self-leveling concrete
that flowed almost like soup. The
Drexel team designed "male" and "female" molds - one
in the shape of the hull's interior and one of its exterior - and simply
poured its concrete into
the narrow channel between the two. A steel mesh provides
reinforcement.
"No other team
has anything like it," says Mike Carnivale, chair of the rules
committee for the competition. See:
"Heavyweight
Paddlers," written by Tom Avril for the Philadelphia Inquirer on
May 29, 2006.

University of
Evansville fields "Sioux Canoe" - Great
Lakes.

Fairmont State University with "Gotta Have It" - Virginias.

Louisiana State University with "The Tempest" - Deep South.

University of Maine
with "Arrrgregate!" - New England.

Michigan Tech with "Keweenaw Miner" - North Central.
T.J. Bates, Michigan Tech's co-captain says, "The other students participating on this
team do it because they love it, no other reason." See:
"Concrete
Solution," written by Nate Caminata for The Country Press on May
14, 2006.
