Presentation:

Two women and one male team member gave the presentation.  The team started by describing the schedule and outlined the goals of the project.  Then they proceeded to outline the approach taken for mix design and the steps taken to construct the canoe.

Innovative features came next with the specifications of the materials.  The team filed a repair report and discussed what they did after regional.  The name “Bullet” was chosen after a black racehorse.

The judges began by asking did you test for the tensile strength of your concrete?  How was the strength to weight ratio determined for the micro-balloons?  Do you know how the manufacturer determined the strength of the micro-balloons included in the mix?

Why did you select Type I cement as opposed to Type III?  What does “higher” setting time mean?  Why did you use steel templates during mold construction?

You used two different types of materials to reinforce your canoe.  Did you perform any tests on the combination of the reinforcing materials (fiberglass and carbon fiber)?  How was the volume of your materials determined to such precision?  That considered, tell us a little about significant figures.  Considering the accident that you had, would you do anything differently next year?
