Presentation:

One male team member dressed in formal attire delivered the presentation.  NC State described how changes were made to take the team out of “Darkness.”

They contrasted the design with last year’s and described how the hull design was modified to make improvements.  The steps taken to build the mold were outlined along with steps taken to construct the boat.  The team elaborated on some of the problems encountered and the steps that they plan to take to correct the problems.

The judges began by asking did you do any testing on your hull design or are you simply relying on analytical methods?  Did you study the transverse stresses and what tests were conducted?

What is a “Leno Weave?”  How did you cut down the gunwales and how did you know how far to cut?  How long was your hull last year?  Were all areas of the hull modeled the same or did you take discontinuities into account?

How did you proceed with you mix design?  Did you use a chemical admixture in your concrete?  Did you measure the water content of these components?  How did you transport your boat?  What was the most unforeseen complication and how did you deal with it?  Did you determine why some splotchy ness occurred during placement?  What would be the one most important thing that you would tell next year’s team to do differently?
