Presentation:

The announcement of the team was met with enthusiasm and a team cheer arose prior to the presentation.  The team employed a split screen to showcase “Formula Green.”

Two male and one female team member gave the presentation.  Billed as the number one team in their region, the team proceeded to outline their objectives.  They followed with project management and their design clinic approach used to introduce the tasks and select the team members.

They discussed the stress distribution and the mix design.  The steps taken to select the reinforcement were outlined and a justification for the materials selection followed.  The team described the steps taken to construct the mold and the canoe.

The judges began by asking how did the steel fiber at the neutral axis of the section contribute to the flexural strength?

The team was asked to elaborate on one of the components used in their mix.  How was prior knowledge incorporated into the effort?  How were the micro-balloons tested?  Did you vary the water to cementitious materials ratio during these tests?  Was the mixing done by hand?

How did you improve on the method employed to transport your canoe?  What was the most unexpected challenge and how did you deal with it?  What assumptions did you make to model your maximum stress condition?
