"University of Florida"
(6th place overall)

Design Paper (11th):

Presentation (11th):

UF went with a racing theme.  Dressed nicely in white top and cache pants, the two man team introduced themselves and proceed to deliver their power point presentation.  They elaborated on the advantages of their carbon fiber reinforcement and used very simple but effective graphics to describe their construction technique.  They mentioned their web site, that they produced a promotional brochure to publicize the effort, and ended by saying that they look forward to paddling their way to victory lane.

The team was asked if the stress risers caused by the finishing techniques had any effect on structural integrity, if the waste left in their buckets affected their volumetric measurements, and how they controlled the hull thickness.

The judges asked what were the advantages/disadvantages of spraying the first layer of concrete onto the mold.  The team was asked to clarify what they hoped to achieve by specifying a tensile strength requirement for the reinforcement, to define the quality control techniques used to ensure a uniform placement, and to describe steps taken to pre-plan for the competition.

The team was confident during the question and answer session and, with one of the largest contingents in attendance at nationals, the audience response was very good.
