"Rochester
Institute of Technology" Design Paper (25th): Presentation (17th):
The team was asked about the alignment of their reinforcement and the air entrainment in their concrete. They were asked why they considered their mix simple when it included air entrainment and super plasticizers. The judges asked the team to specify the target value for the amount of air entrained and asked whether the team thought that their relatively shallow gunwale and small freeboard would present problems during race day. The judges closed out the session by asking how the team chose the target values for their concrete strength. In general, the team handled themselves quite well and maintained good body language while under fire. Product (20th): Name: ArcticCat Vital Stats:
Rochester Institute of Technology is located in Rochester, New York. They have proudly represented the Upstate New York
Region three times at the national level (1997, 1998, and 2002). Their highest finish was tenth in 1998. Canoe/Materials/Facts: Rochester's canoe was constructed of thoroughly researched lightweight concrete. Their mix reflected an ideal strength to weight ratio. This resulted in the most practical mix possible while maintaining reasonable weight and strength. |
