"Oklahoma
State University (OSU)" Design Paper (8th):
Presentation (7th):
The team highlighted their construction process and stressed the importance of building their practice boat. They refined their injection method and employed shorter placement tubes and post cast gunwales. They explained how they tested their techniques, elaborated on how they developed a unique injection tube, and stressed the importance of reproductive cost. They were asked how the reduction of water cement ratio increased compressive strength, and if they tested the bond between the hull and the pre-cast gunwales. They were questioned on the latex used in their mix, how the water content was counted in the mix table, how the curing was done, and how their mold was removed. They were also asked to define "critical path" and were questioned on the scheduling used in the project.
Product (3rd): Name: The Difference
Vital Stats: OSU is located in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Their team won the Mid-Continent Conference to qualify for nationals and this year marked their eleventh appearance at this level. They have logged six consecutive appearances at nationals and have six top ten finishes to their credit - including four in the top five. Their highest finish to date was 2nd in 2000. Display (2nd):
Canoe/Materials/Facts: The OSU canoe was designed with a perfect combination of straight line speed and maneuverability. Cast with an injection system, the finish needed little work and the canoe was left unfinished on the interior. |
