"Clemson
University - 3CT" Design Paper (2nd):
Presentation (1st):
The team was questioned on the characteristics of their mixes and they were asked to explain how they measured shrinkage. One of the team members was questioned on his eligibility. They were asked to explain why they used two project managers, the potential causes of critical cracking, and to clarify some of the time constraints imposed during construction. The team was asked to define the critical components in their schedule for the project and why someone would want to pay more for their canoe than other less costly models. This was the best overall effort and deserved to be rated number one.
Product (6th): Name: Accomplice
Vital Stats: Clemson University is located in Clemson, South Carolina. Their 3CT (Clemson Concrete Canoe Team) qualified for the competition by winning the Carolinas Conference. They are one of only three schools (UAH and Berkeley are the others) to win back-to-back national titles in the 15 year history of the NCCC. This year marked their tenth consecutive appearance. The team holds three national titles (1999, 2000, and 2002). They have nine top ten finishes - eight being top five. Display (4th):
Canoe/Materials/Facts: This year’s canoe was the product of new research and continued meticulous attention to detail. The canoe’s improved concrete mix design was comprised of glass bubbles, Type III cement, acrylic latex, and chopped fibers. The canoe was reinforced with polypropylene mesh and pre-tensioned polyethylene strands. Subtle modifications were made to the team’s proven hull design. |
