Virginia Tech, located in Blacksburg, Virginia, was the representative from the Virginias Conference.  Tech has participated twelve times at the national level and this was their fourth consecutive appearance.  Their highest finish to date was seventh in 1989.

Canoe/Materials/Facts:

The canoe was constructed using a light concrete mix with Type I Portland cement.  The reinforcement consisted of a steel mesh (woven) and was laid over the canoe form in one continuous piece.  A unique element of the construction was a stressed steel cable placed in the gunwale area to act as a tie down for the steel mesh reinforcement.
