The University of New Orleans, located in New Orleans, Louisiana, was the representative from the Deep South Region.  This was UNO's twelfth appearance at nationals and marked their third consecutive appearance.  They have eight top ten finishes to their credit, four being top five.  Their highest finish to date was third in 1992 and 1994.

The "Super Canoe" featured an elliptical hull design made of a lightweight concrete mix reinforced with a special mesh and three ribs.  The team incorporated a bulbous bow to increase speed.
