Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
AKA Spirit

Our International Program will include five targets:

Education, The Black Family, Health, Economics and The Arts.

Program Target: The Black Family

The world we see in the new millennium is one where a child's need for time with his or her parents is a top priority; where family togetherness is prized; where family ties are reestablished; where parents consider the well-being of their children; and where homelessness does not exist. This program focuses on issues that divide the Black family, at-risk youth, family values for middle and high school youth, caregiver training, Black family outreach, and AKA Coat Day.

NEW PROGRAMS

Program 1:
Martin L. King Day of Service
“A Day ON instead of a Day Off”

Sponsor: Corporation for National and Community Service
Alpha Kappa Alpha encourages its members to observe the Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday as a day of service. Opportunities include tutoring, training tutors, stocking a food or clothing pantry and/or providing health screening. In partnership with (CNCS) our members are encouraged to bring people together around the common focus of service to others. Funds are available through CNCS to support activities that strengthen communities and reflect the life and teachings of Dr. King.

Program 2:
National Family Volunteer Day

Sponsor: Points of Light Foundation
Alpha Kappa Alpha’s focus has since its inception been “Service to All Mankind.” This administration strongly encourages involvement of individuals, families and communities in volunteer services. In partnership with the Points of Light Foundation (POLF), Alpha Kappa Alpha will participate in the National Family Volunteer Day on the third Saturday of November each year beginning in 2003.
