General Volunteer Opportunities:
Volunteer opportunities with various non-profit agencies and community organizations will be listed on the university’s website. A link to The Volunteer Center of Madison County’s website will also be included. This website supports an extensive database of community organizations, thus increasing students’ awareness of and ability to connect with the Huntsville/Madison County community.
Curriculum Integration and Development:
The Service-Learning and Volunteer Services program will serve as an academic support program, working with all academic departments to incorporate requested curriculum specific placements in the community. Resources for creating service-learning courses will also be provided.
Community Based Service Projects:
The Service-Learning and Volunteer Services program will assist in the development and support of a grassroots student organization at UAH, and eventually other area college students, whose mission is to provide opportunities and strategies for students to become engaged in their local community. This organization will enhance the relationship between campus resources and community needs through the development of partnerships between university faculty, staff and students.
Alternative Spring Break
This traditional project will involve a partnership between community organizations whose mission will be to provide UAH students with the opportunity to utilize their academic skills in the context of a project with professionals who educate the students about the community they are serving, as well as demonstrate how and what their education can offer the community in terms of skills, interests, talents, and expertise.
