Housing Leadership Community
L.E.A.P.
L.E.A.P., which stands for Leadership Education and Advising Program, is a new initiative here at UAH that intends to help incoming first year students connect with outstanding student leaders here on campus. Students in the L.E.A.P. program will live on the Leadership floor in Central Campus Residence Hall during their first year. These students will go through leadership training and development programs, organized by the L.E.A.P. advisors and Leadership Resident Assistants. In addition, each L.E.A.P. student will be carefully matched with a Peer Mentor who will help students to transition to our campus and become active in the UAH community.
By becoming a Peer Mentor, student leaders will help to guide our next generation of UAH Chargers. Mentoring is a rewarding experience for all those involved. The relationship that is formed between the mentor and the person being mentored is built on trust, respect and the common goal of bettering one’s ability to succeed. Mentors will also receive access to great training topics and professional development opportunities.
Peer Mentors
A Peer Mentor (PM) assists first-year students in their transition from high school to UAH by providing support and guidance. This is accomplished by the Peer Mentor actively participating in both the Fall and Spring training programs, as well as building a relationship with your assigned first year mentee throughout the academic year. L.E.A.P. focuses on all aspects of adjustment: social, academic and mental wellness.
