Planning began for the Charger Union two years ago when a group of students and staff began researching student centers in the Southeast. Through their campus visits, numerous focus groups with UAHuntsville students, and lots of surveys, the Charger Union began to take shape. Construction begins in the summer of 2012 and the building is expected to take 18 months to complete. Check out our YouTube video about the new building.
The Charger Union will be THE place for student life on campus!
The building will include:
- Lounge space for informal meetings and gatherings
- Food service including a World of Wings and Dunkin Donuts
- The University Bookstore
- A copy and mailing center
- A game room including electronic gaming
- Outdoor patios and covered verandas for lounging
- Meeting rooms for students and student organizations
- Student organization and student life offices
- An auditorium with seating for 300+
- Electronic signage for marketing and information sharing
- An staffed information desk
- Performance spaces for student events
- Wireless access throughout the building
- A large, open atrium
