STRATEGIC GOALS
SUMMARY
Research at UAHuntsville continues to be a vibrant and expanding function as it demonstrates our unique role in Alabama as the leading science (non-medical) and engineering research institution. Responding to the academic needs of the Colleges and the opportunities to perform sponsored research with the Federal agencies, we have managed to continue to grow in an uncertain and changing environment.
We have made significant progress with aligning research to address the needs of the DOD while maintaining our strong basic science program. Our priorities for the next two years will be to grow in collaboration with the academic units, maintaining a balance in our research while continuing to diversify our sponsors. UAHuntsville should continue to leverage its location relevant to the Redstone Arsenal, Cummings Research Park, the HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology and Oak Ridge National Laboratory to support ongoing research and to create new partnerships.
Growing a stronger presence outside DOD and NASA must be a high priority. UAHuntsville must continue to capitalize on the intellectual property created as a result of our research and to find effective ways to commercialize this property so that its benefits can be brought to society.
