The Peer Assisted Study Session (PASS) Program provides academic support for students enrolled in classes that have been designated as historically difficult. Working with the faculty who teach those classes, we hire undergraduate and graduate peer leaders who have been successful in the course to re-attend the class along with currently enrolled students. These peer leaders then facilitate group study sessions three times per week.
Look at the current PASS schedule!
What we do in PASS: PASS leaders work with students on both the content of the course and necessary study and learning strategies for the course. PASS can help you with WHAT to learn and HOW to learn.
Participating in PASS: PASS is provided for approximately 30 foundational, historically difficult courses across the colleges. Students can participate in PASS by registering for classes coded with a "P" in the schedule of classes. PASS leaders survey the class at the beginning of the semester to determine which times are best to hold study sessions. A list of courses currently supported by PASS can be found here.
Hiring of PASS Leaders: PASS leaders are hired in April for the Fall semester and November for the Spring semester. For more information about qualifications and the hiring process, please visit our Job Opportunities page or contact Kristen Tunison, PASS Coordinator.
Training of PASS Leaders: PASS leaders complete a rigorous training course as they work toward full PASS leader certification. PASS leaders go through training before each semester starts and throughout each semester. A list of our current PASS leaders can be found here.
