I specialize in social theory and the sociology of science, technology, and medicine. My empirical research examines the ways in which contemporary culture and social life are being transformed and defined by scientific and technological developments. It is mostly qualitative—ethnographic and historical. In pursuing this line of work, I’ve become well-versed in sociological literatures on institutions and organizations, economics, politics, and medicine. I’m also interested in intellectual questions shared by the disciplines of history, philosophy, and sociology—issues taken up in debates on the methodological foundations of the social sciences and theories of knowledge, consciousness, morality, and reason.
