Pinus x hakkodensis - (No common name)

Family - Pinaceae

* Very little is known on this conifer as it is very rare in cultivation. My sources of information are Manual of Cultivated Conifers, Gerd Krussman, Timber Press and Conifers, volume 2, van Gelderen and van Hoey Smith, Timber Press.

Size - Shrubby, low, to maybe 8 feet. Very slow growing, has grown about 4 or 5" in 4 years. May 2002 photo May 2003 photo

Foliage - Needles are long, coarse, and twisted.

Pests and Diseases - None noticed

Landscape Use - Primarily for the collector as it is difficult to locate. Can be used in the rock/conifer garden display.

Performance - 8 Purchased this plant in 1993. It was container grown and then planted in the spring of 1997. It is rated to zone 6. A natural hybrid between Pinus parviflora(Japanese White Pine) and Pinus pumila (Japanese Stone Pine). I have not managed to kill it yet.
