The Office of Pre-Health Professions Advising mission is to facilitate students of all majors, alumni, and post-baccalaureate of The University of Alabama in Huntsville with their individual process by providing support, guidance, and resources to those interested in a pursuing a career in the health related professions.


The Office of Pre-Health Professions Advising values developing meaningful relationships, a sense of community, personal growth and development, a sense of support and challenge, and overall wellness.

The Office of Pre-Health Professions Advising promotes learning through community service, academic excellence, leadership, teamwork, cultural competence, ethical responsibility, maturity, reliability, adaptability, awareness of oneself, others, and one’s profession, and a capacity for improvement in all students.


Even if an individual is just starting to consider a health career or is already submitting their application to a health program, the UAH Coordinator of Pre-Health Professions assists with planning, procedures, and information.

The Office of Pre-Health Professions Advising assists in the following fields:

Medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, physical therapy, occupational therapy, optometry, physician assistant, veterinary medicine, and all areas in between, like graduate school in public health or other master's or PhD programs.

None of the areas above are listed as majors at UAH. Instead, individuals chose their majors to gain a degree in and work with their Academic Advisor in their major department to ensure they are meeting the classes needed to graduate.

They also work with the Pre-Health Advisor to ensure they are on track to applying the professional school of their choice.

The Pre-Health Professions Advising Office has information on other health careers, job shadowing, interning, research, summer opportunities, post-bacc and graduate options in medical or health related fields, personal statement help, and interviewing skills techniques.
