  • CS 143 Intro to Technology, Multimedia and Gaming—if you are interested in gaming courses (take instead of lab science)

1. Did you take Computer Science as a dual enrollment student?

Yes:  email cosorientation@uah.edu your college transcript and bring it with you to orientation.

  • If you took CS 102 or CS 103, take CS 121 in the Fall
2. Do you have AP Credit for Computer Science?
  • If you took the exam Junior year, email your scores to cosorientation@uah.edu
  • If you took the exam Senior year, AP scores arrive mid-July and you can adjust your schedule. Until then you must register for the recommended course on your registration sheet.
  • AP score 3 = CS 102
  • AP score 4 or 5 = CS 102 and CS 121—CS 121 credit based on knowledge level of C programming by the department. Email cosorientation@uah.edu for more information.

3. Did you take Programming courses in high school, but they were not an "AP" class or Dual enrollment course?

Yes. Email cosorientation@uah.edu with your Name, A#, and some information about the class(es) you took. We’ll ask the department about your correct course placement.

  • CH101/105 Intro to Chemistry and lab (if enrolled in MA 112 or MA 113 or you have not taken a Chemistry)
  • CH 121/125 General Chemistry + lab (if enrolled in MA 113 or MA 171)

Registration information is based on your ACT/SAT scores, AP, and/or dual enrollment scores we have already received.

What is FYE 101 Charger Success?

 

FYE (First-year Experience) is a course designed to help students transition from high school to UAH.  It is required of all first-time freshmen.  If you are a science major, you must register for FYE 101S unless you are an Honors student (all Honors students must take FYE 101H).

The English class listed on the registration sheet is wrong, what do I do?

 

1. Did you take EH 101 and/or EH 102 as a dual enrollment student?

Yes-email cosorientation@uah.edu your college transcript or bring it with you to orientation.
If you took EH 101, take EH 102 in the Fall.
If you took EH 101 and EH 102, choose a different Charger Foundations course.

2. Did you take the AP English Literature or AP English Language exam?

If you took the exam Junior year, email your scores to cosorientation@uah.edu
If you took the exam Senior year, AP scores arrive mid-July, then you can adjust your schedule. Until then you must register for EH 101.

  • AP score 3 or 4 on either exam = EH 101 cr
  • AP score 4 on both exams = EH 101 + EH 102 cr
  • AP score 5 on either exam = EH 101 + 102 cr

3.  Are you an honors student?

•Honors students are required to take EH 105 – Honors composition, even if you have AP or Dual enrollment credit for EH 101 & EH 102.
• Honors advisor, honors@uah.edu can provide more information on how the courses count towards your degree.

The Math class listed on the registration sheet is wrong, what do I do?

 

The math class on your registration sheet is based on your Math ACT or SAT score.

•If you took MA 112, take MA 113 in the Fall.
•If you took MA 112 and MA 113, take MA 171 in the Fall.
•If you took MA 171, then take MA 172 in the Fall (depending upon  your major).

 

2. Did you take the AP Calculus AB or BC exam?

•If you took the exam Junior year, email your scores to cosorientation@uah.edu
•If you took the exam Senior year, AP scores arrive mid-July and you can adjust your schedule. Until then you must register for the recommended course on your registration sheet.
 
-AP score  3, 4 or 5 Calculus AB exam = MA 171 cr
-AP score 3 Calculus BC exam = MA 171 cr
-AP score 4 or 5 Calculus BC exam = MA 171 + MA 172 cr
 

3. Did you take the Math placement test?

•Yes. Email cosorientation@uah.edu with your name, A# and notification that you completed the Math placement test.

•No. Math placement test is online, free and can be taken up to 5 times.  The math placement test must be taken before your orientation session and registration.

MA 171R is listed on my registration list.  What is it and what do I do?
 
•MA 171 Calculus A Recitation  
•“R” = Recitation. Recitation is a time for extra practice and help outside of lecture. It is not required, but highly recommended for MA 171.
•It is free!

What Charger Foundation course should I take?

 

Choose a course from Fine Arts, Humanities or Social & Behavioral Science.

Common choices:

  • MU 100, Intro to Music Literature
  • TH 122, Theatre Appreciation
  • ARH 100, Art History Survey: Ancient to Medieval
  • ARH 101, Art History Survey: Renaissance to Modern
  • PHL 101, Intro to Philosophy
  • WLC 101 courses, Foreign Language
  • SOC 100, Intro to Sociology
  • PSC 101, Intro to American Government

 

Note:  Not all students will need to take a Charger Foundations course for their fall semester.

What electives should I take?

 

Electives are courses you are interested in taking that are not necessarily part of your major, minor, or Charger Foundation requirements.  

Students can take 1-2 hours of elective courses.  Choices include:

  • KIN-Kinesiology
  • HPE-Health & Physical Education
  • MUS-Music

Note:  Not all students will need to take an elective course for their fall semester.
