General Education Requirements

All degree programs at UAH require a General Education Requirement (GER) component. The GER enables students to develop knowledge and skills that are useful and important for all educated persons, regardless of their jobs or professions. GER includes course work in four broad categories: composition, the humanities and fine arts, social and behavioral sciences, and natural and physical sciences. Successful completion of these courses broadens intellectual awareness and enhances the development of cultural literacy and analytical thinking. GER requirements vary by college, but general education courses account for a little over one third of the minimum total degree requirements.
