Spring 2015 Commencement The University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) Spring 2015 Commencement will take place Sunday, May 3, 2015 at the Von Braun Center in the Propst Arena. The ceremony will include students who have completed degree requirements in the Spring Semester. Doctoral, Masters, and Bachelors degrees will be presented. Commencement Speaker & Honorary Degree Recipient Frederiek Toney Vice President, Global Ford Customer Service DivisionFord Motor Company Frederiek Toney was elected vice president, Global Ford Customer Service Division and a corporate officer of Ford Motor Company in 2009. Toney joined Ford Motor Company in 2000 and has held numerous leadership positions in logistics, operations, and parts and service. Most recently he served as executive director of Global Material Planning and Logistics, Ford’s highest-ranking logistics executive. Prior to joining Ford, he spent 16 years with Caterpillar Inc. in a variety of managerial assignments. He then served for seven years at American Honda Motor Company, rising to the position of assistant vice president, Parts Division. Toney received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from The University of Alabama in Huntsville and was named a UAH Alumni of Achievement Honoree in 2006. While attending UAH, he played on the Charger basketball team from 1973 to 1975. He earned a Master’s of Business Administration from University of La Verne in La Verne, California. Today, serves on the Trustees Foundation at University of Alabama, and on the College of Business Administration Advisory Council at UAH and at Central State University, Wilberforce, Ohio. In 2007, World Trade 100 Magazine named Toney as a “Fabulous 50+1” decision maker in the global logistics field. In 2012, Black Enterprise named him as one of “100 Most Powerful Executives in Corporate America.” Toney has been featured in several national publications including Bloomberg Businessweek, Automotive LOGISTICS, and Producer 10. Honorary Degree Recipient Dorothy S. Davidson Chairman & CEO - Davidson Technologies Inc. Dorothy S. Davidson is a native of Northern Virginia and has been a resident of Huntsville, Alabama for the past 23 years. She earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics in 1956 and took a position as a research mathematician with the U.S. Air Force Air Staff at the Pentagon. She received advanced education in mathematics, business administration and system engineering. In 1965, Mrs. Davidson began her work in industry as a system engineer. Her employment took her to Europe where she worked with several U.S. and German companies. Mrs. Davidson returned to the United States after 17 years abroad and consulted for companies who interfaced with NATO. In 1981, she married Julian Davidson. In 1992 they moved from Virginia to Huntsville, Alabama, where Mrs. Davidson managed the Davidson Family trusts and ran several companies, including Davidson Properties. In early 2013, Mrs. Davidson assumed the role of chairman of the board and chief executive officer of Davidson Technologies, Inc. The Huntsville-based company employs more than 230 technical and administrative professionals with personnel in Huntsville, Colorado Springs, and Washington D.C. Davidson Technologies’ core competencies include: Information Assurance, System Engineering and Analysis, Modeling and Simulation, Software Development IV&V, Test and Evaluation, C2BMC/WCS, and Aerospace. She has devoted a great deal of her time to serving on numerous boards and committees over the years and has been honored by many philanthropic organizations for her work and support. Mrs. Davidson is an active supporter of the Huntsville Symphony, as well as the Huntsville Museum of Art. Ms. Davidson is currently a board member of the Alabama Space Science Exhibit Commission (which oversees the U.S. Space & Rocket Center), The Huntsville Symphony, The Huntsville Art Museum, and she is a member of the UAH Foundation. Candidate Instructions Guests No tickets are required for guests. Please notify family and friends that the doors will open exactly one hour prior to the scheduled ceremony time. Line-Up and Procession Students should report to their college line-up area in the Von Braun Center East Hall no later than one hour prior to the ceremony. You will receive a line-up card indicating your number in line and be instructed by University staff about when and where to line up. Your line-up card is the key to get you across the stage. Participation in Commencement Fall Commencement - Students who have completed degree requirements in the Summer semester, as well as those who have applied for graduation and will complete all degree requirements for the Fall semester. Spring Commencement - Students who have applied for graduation and will complete all degree requirements for the Spring semester. Doctoral candidates must notify Graduates Studies in order to participate in the ceremony. What to Bring to Commencement Degree candidates should purchase their caps and gowns from the UAH Campus Bookstore prior to the ceremony and must bring them, along with their tassels, to Commencement. Students should not bring purses, cell phones, etc., into the Von Braun Center. Personal items may not be left in the assembly or robing areas during the ceremony. Academic Regalia Commencement is an occasion marking a special time in a student's academic career. Appropriate attire for the occasion is a black academic gown and mortarboard with no personal accessories or messages. Undergraduate student members of academic honor societies may wear the insignia or honor cord of that academic honor society. Flowers, personal jewelry, pins or cords from social fraternities and sororities are not to be worn on academic robes. All graduates participating in the ceremony must wear their academic regalia. Caps and Gowns Caps and gowns may be purchased at Countdown to Cap and Gown or in the UAH Campus Bookstore Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Doctoral candidates should pre-order your cap and gown at least one month prior to the ceremony.
