Research and Scholarship - (January 8, 2009)
Within the UA System, the Board of Trustees recognizes the role of ongoing scholarly research by requiring that faculty salaries be broadly divided into 60 percent for teaching 20 percent for research and 20 percent for service to the institution and the profession.

Wilson Hall Renovation - (December 12, 2008)

Campus Master Plan - (December 11, 2008)
One of the most important things for university to do is to ensure that it plans its future infrastructure needs carefully and coherently. We are approaching the end of our current 5-year master plan, and we have achieved almost everything that was laid out in that document.

Research universities hold the key to Huntsville's future development - (November 3, 2008)
IntelCell recently introduced InQ, a precision instrument designed to increase the precision and consistency of cell growth in laboratory experimentation. This remarkable technology, which will change the way biological and medical research is conducted, was developed by Dr. Amy Bishop, an assistant professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at The University of Alabama in Huntsville. Then, the collective support of Biztech and the Huntsville Angel Network helped InQ get to market.

Financial Impact in Current Fiscal Year - (October 26, 2008)
It is clear that the forthcoming academic year will bring yet more financial challenges for the university. Because of the recent national financial paroxysms, state income taxes and sales taxes will be less than last year leading to further budget cuts. Inevitably we will face proration as the state budget picture becomes clearer.

Convocations and Commencements - (September 5, 2008)
For most of its 40 years of independent existence UAHuntsville was a commuter campus. Students drove to campus, took classes and left, as if it were a community college or effectively a post-secondary high school with grades 13-17

The role of athletics in a research university - (January 25, 2008)
I attended the NCAA meeting in Nashville, Tenn., in mid-January. No other event that I have attended as UAH president has brought together so many diverse people interested in the education of students: presidents from major and minor, public and private universities, current and past sporting icons, faculty representatives, athletic directors, student representatives and many others.

Early observations about UAHuntsville - (July 16, 2007)
So I've been at UAHuntsville for a short period of time, most of the time listening to the thoughts of others as I meet with them to learn about this university, but I managed some time at the fitness center trying to work off the hours of sitting in meetings.
