Pre-Law Students Some law schools use letters as part of their application process, as a tool to understand who you are and your ability to preform academically. Letter Details Law schools vary in the number of letters they require, however, determining at least two academic letter writers will be beneifical. Academic letters are seen as helpful in providing schools a sense of your written work, participation in class, and how you perform as a student. Build relationships with faculty and staff over your time at UAH. Developing quality, positive relationships will aid in producing a more detailed and descriptive letter about you. Letter writers should refer to your personality traits and mention specific examples when describing you. It can be helpful to have letter writers define how long they have known you, what type of student you are (grade in the course, attendance, participation, etc), how you work with others, your leadership skills, and your written and speaking abilities and skills. Do not use letters from family or friends, even if they are a practicing attorney. Preparing your Letter Writer Give your letter writers plenty of time to write their letter. Asking 4 weeks in advance, at minimum, would be sufficient in providing letter writers enough time to write a quality letter for you. Providing information to your letter writers can be helpful in their preparation of your letter. Equipping your letter writer with your resume, LSAT score, personal statement, and details on how to submit their letter, can expediate the letter writing process.
