HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (June 28, 2016) — Ready to explore your creative side? Whether you are interested in challenging yourself professionally or just pursuing a personal topic of interest, The University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) Professional and Continuing Studies (PCS) Certificate in Interior Design will provide you practical knowledge and an interactive learning experience to apply in the real world of Interior Design. Learn the foundations of design through lectures, problem-solving projects, practical hands-on education, and field trips.

The certificate program is offered through UAH Professional and Continuing Studies under the academic direction of LaMerle Mikell, registered Interior Designer and UAH interior design instructor. Ms. Mikell is a practicing professional whose work has been featured in local publications and Southern Living Magazine. As a well-known consultant for commercial and residential properties, both locally and nationally, Ms. Mikell educates her students on how to make the best decisions for their home, friends or clients.

"Various businesses, such as lighting companies, architectural offices, plumbing organizations, and furniture stores, often seek out and employ individuals who have completed UAH’s Certificate in Interior Design. “I am always thrilled and proud to hear that another one of our students has been employed in the design field,” shared Ms. Mikell."
Lane Fabby, Director of Professional Development, UAH

The certificate program is offered one night a week, through five specialized interior design short courses that are aimed at individuals who are searching for new career skills or knowledge for personal use. Choose just one course or complete the entire certificate:

You will learn the essentials of color, design elements, design principles, and explore design history, interior materials, and window treatments. Darryl Bird, a registered Architect, will help you acquire an understanding of lighting, basic drawing and drafting, as well as blue prints from an architectural perspective. Courtney Green, a certified Home Stager, will show you how to improve a property's appeal by transforming it into a welcoming, attractive product.
