Charger ID and Password

Your Charger ID (not to be confused with your Charger Card) is the first part of your official UAH email address (characters left of the @ sign). Use your Charger ID and password to sign into Canvas, myUAH, the wireless network, Google Apps, and more. If you have tried the wrong password with your Charger ID three times, your account could become locked. To unlock your account, contact the OIT Help Desk or simply wait one hour before trying again.

Your A-Number is provided to you in a letter from the university when you enroll. It is used by various offices around campus. You may be asked for it in order to access your personal records or for security purposes.

Don't know your Charger ID?

Your A-Number and a PIN will be provided to you in a letter from the university upon admintance. Once you have obtained your A-Number and PIN in the mail, you will need to follow the steps below to access your Charger ID.

  1. Go to the OIT User Services Portal.
  2. At the bottom half of the screen, enter your A-Number beginning with "A" and then enter the PIN you were given. Click Find my Charger ID.
  3. Your Charger ID will appear in the box at the top of the page called "Charger ID."

Customizing your Password

OIT recommends that you customize your Charger password away from the default value. If you know your Charger password, you can personalize it with the steps below:

  1. Visit the OIT User Services Portal ( and log in with your Charger ID and password.
  2. On the My Password(s) tab, enter your new password and then reenter to confirm.
  3. Click on Change Now.
  4. A pop-up confirmation window will appear.
  5. Close the window and make note of your new password.
  6. Logout of the portal. 

Note: Your new password must be alphanumeric, mixed-case, and 8-15 characters long.

Unlocking your Account

To unlock your account the OIT Help Desk will reset your password. Please contact the OIT Help Desk in one of the following ways:

  1. Call the OIT Help Desk at 256-824-3333. Be prepared to answer your security questions (stored in Banner) to verify your identity.
  2. Send an email to and include a photo of yourself holding your driver's license.
  3. FAX a copy of your signature and driver’s license to the OIT Help Desk at 256-824-5623.
  4. Visit the OIT Help Desk on campus in the Salmon Library between 8am and 5pm any weekday that the university is open. Be sure to bring your photo ID. Once we have confirmed your identity, we will reset your Charger password to the default.
