Students already possessing a master's degree in nursing have the opportunity to pursue a family nurse practitioner certificate. Students are admitted to the family nurse practitioner certificate program on a full-time basis to complete the requirements in four semesters. After completing coursework, students are eligible to sit for national certification examinations.
There are two required prerequisite courses for the Post-Master's Family Nurse Practitioner Program; students must have completed Advanced Health Assessment and Advanced Pathophysiology at UAH or another institution prior to applying to the program.

Students normally begin classes in the Fall semester which meet one day per week – on Wednesdays - to allow for full-time employment; students enrolling in the program will complete the requirements in four semesters. The program of study is as follows:

You will be matched with a preceptor who meets your particular background and needs, and you can request a preceptor close to where you live. Clinical experience is earned outside of your classes.
