Internationally recognized nursing professor and environmental health expert, Dr. Barbara Sattler, recently visited The University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) College of Nursing and presented the public talk "Our Environment and Our Health: How Are They Connected?"

In her address, Sattler presented health risks related to environmental hazards, such as personal care products, pesticides, indoor and outdoor air pollutant, and climate change, and talked about the health impacts of fossil fuels, including the use of fracking, a method of extracting natural gas embedded in shale rock by pumping millions of gallons of water, chemicals, and sand into the earth.

While visiting UAH, Dr. Sattler also conducted the professional workshop "Environmental Health and Nursing Workshop,” for Alabama nurses and nursing students. Participants attending the workshop learned about common environmental exposures, polluting water, air, soil and food.

Sattlers' visit to Huntsville was sponsored by the UAH College of Nursing.
