Nurse Practitioners and Advocates Honored During National AANP Conference
(May 20, 2013) – Nurse practitioners (NPs) and NP advocates, recipients of the prestigious AANP State Award for Excellence, will be honored during the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) 2013 National Conference in Las Vegas, June 19 – 23, 2013.
The State Award for Nurse Practitioner Excellence, founded in 1991, recognizes an NP in a state who demonstrates excellence in practice. In 1993, the State Award for Nurse Practitioner Advocate was added to recognize the efforts of individuals who have made a significant contribution toward increasing the awareness and acceptance of NPs.
Alabama's State Award for Excellence this year goes to Dr. Susan Alexander, CRNP, and faculty member at the College of Nursing, University of Alabama in Huntsville. Dr. Alexander has been a NP since 2003, and also maintains certification in Advanced Diabetes Management. In addition to her faculty responsibilities, Dr. Alexander sees patients weekly at a rural health clinic in North Alabama.
The American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) represents the interests of approximately 157,000 NPs across the country, providing a unified networking platform and advocating for their role as providers of high-quality, cost-effective, comprehensive, patient-centered and personalized health care.
The organization provides legislative leadership at the local, state and national levels, advancing health policy; promoting excellence in practice, education and research; and establishing standards that best serve NP patients and other health care consumers.
