Education

1998   Ph.D.   Electrical Engineering, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign

Biography

Prof. Junpeng Guo earned his Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC). At UIUC, he demonstrated the first thin film micropolarizer array. The work stimulated and enabled the later development of the multi-billion dollar 3D TV industry. After graduation from Illinois, Dr. Guo joined the former Rockwell International Science Center in Thousand Oaks, California as a Research Scientist and later moved to Sandia National Laboratories, Albuquerque, New Mexico as a Member of Technical Staff. He also held a Research Scholar appointment with the Fitzpatrick Center for Photonics at the Duke University. In 2005, Dr. Guo joined the faculty of the University of Alabama in Huntsville, and now he is a Professor of Electrical Engineering and a Professor of Optical Science and Engineering. Dr. Guo received the Alan Berman Research Publication Award from the Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) in 2013, the ASEE-Air Force Office of Scientific Research Summer Faculty Fellowship in 2010, and the ASEE-Naval Research Office Summer Faculty Fellowship in 2011. Dr. Guo was the only recipient of the University Distinguished Faculty Research Award in 2016 and one of two recipients of the Outstanding Engineering Faculty Research Award of UAH in 2016. He was also the only recipient of the College of Engineering Outstanding Junior Faculty Award in 2007. Dr. Guo is a senior member of the Optical Society of America (OSA) and a senior member of the International Society for Optics and Photonics (SPIE). He currently serves as an Associate Editor of OSA Journal of Photonics Research, and also serves as an Associate Editor of SPIE Journal of Nanophotonics.
