HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (June 4, 2013) - Dr. Jatinder (Jeet) N. D. Gupta, Eminent Scholar and Professor in the College of Business Administration at The University of Alabama in Huntsville, was recently elected to the Decision Science Institute's Board of Directors as Vice President for Global Activities. Dr. Gupta has been at UAH since August 2002 and is an internationally renowned academician with a global vision. He has published extensively in national and international journals, and in the past has served as the president of the Production and Operations Management Society.
"I'm honored and I'm excited," said Dr. Gupta of winning the election. "I've been a member of DSI since the beginning, almost 40 years ago, and have participated in its activities at various levels including the creation of the Indian Subcontinent Decision Sciences Institute." This new position, he continued, will enable him to "work on contributing to emerging economies by providing them with the opportunity to enhance their teaching and research capabilities in decision sciences."
Dr. Gupta said his responsibilities would align with DSI's current strategic thrust toward a more global society. "I will be responsible for strategies to enhance the global outreach of DSI, its international conferences, and international divisions," he said. "I will be working as a member of the DSI Board on the one hand and its international regions on the other hand to develop strategies and plans to formulate and implement DSI global strategies and tactics."
Dating back to the late 1960s, DSI is an international interdisciplinary organization that includes faculty members and professionals from various disciplines who are interested and/or involved in improving the decision-making processes in their organizations. It is considered one of the most prestigious worldwide academic associations for faculty in operations management, management science, and information systems.
Thus, said Dr. Caron St. John, Dean of the College of Business Administration, the election honors not just Dr. Gupta, but also the school as a whole. "This is an extraordinary accomplishment that helps bring great recognition to The University of Alabama in Huntsville and the College of Business Administration," she said.
